1787 Brasher Doubloon: America’s First Gold Coin Worth Over $9 Million

The 1787 Brasher Doubloon is one of the most iconic and valuable coins in American history.

Crafted by renowned goldsmith Ephraim Brasher, a close neighbor of George Washington, this gold coin predates the U.S. Mint and represents the earliest example of American gold coinage.

Brasher boldly punched his initials “EB” on the eagle’s wing, a signature that would become legendary in numismatics.

Struck in New York, the coin was a private issue created to inspire confidence in a young nation's currency.

Weighing approximately 26.6 grams of nearly pure gold, only a handful were ever made—and just seven authentic examples are known to exist today.

Due to its historical significance and rarity, one of these coins fetched $9.36 million at auction in 2021, making it one of the most valuable coins ever sold.

The 1787 Brasher Doubloon is more than a collectible—it's a gold-clad piece of early American identity, linking commerce, craftsmanship, and patriotism in one magnificent coin.
