Spotting this rare nickel will earn you a lot of money.

Who doesn't dream of winning the lotto and doing anything they want with such a large sum of money? Even though the odds are against us, the prospect of a life-changing sum of money is too alluring to pass up.

While waiting for the next huge win, check your purse or change jar for a lot of money.

The rarest coin in the US is the 1913 Liberty Head V Nickel, which is even rarer than Wisconsin state quarters and the 1943 copper penny. But that also makes it more valuable. One of these sparkling nickels sold for $4.5 million at auction in 2018.

Nickels have a fascinating history, according to the American Numismatic Association. As shown below, the Buffalo head nickel was scheduled to replace the liberty design that year, but at least five survived the minting process. However, how and why remains unknown.

Call us optimists, but we think there are more than five nickels with this design. Six years after their creation, they found the first one in 1919.

Couldn't there be others that people have overlooked? Start by looking through your elder family member's coin collection, especially if they have a large collection that may contain this gem.

Whether we locate this rare nickel or any other coin worth more than its face value, we'll check all our change before spending it!
